Default V50 2.0d squealing under load

Wotcha one and all,

I hope someone can help me out. I've got a 07 v50 se 2.0d 167k had it 11 years and love it. By large its been faithfull and reliable. However, I've got a slightly strange issue - let me explain;

A couple of weeks ago I started it after changing a bulb and was met with a very obvious knocking sound. Car or and then started again and sound disappeared. Then the same with a restart fixing the issue. I towed under 1500kg load with no issues a few days back. Now, seemingly at random I've developed a belt squeak under load when moving forward. So far the likely culprits are;
A/C compressor? - ac hasn't worked for a while despite a regas (maybe try the shim trick)
Belt tensioner? Wouldn't have thought it would only sound under load
Alternatively pully on its way out? It was replaced <10k ago with new from ecp (but not the cheap one)
PCV? It's not making noise at idle so can't try the disturb trick.

Any ideas? Don't really fancy changing that lot chasing a noise.

If you're think ac or alternator, maybe take the aux belt off and run it, see if the noise disappears. And turn each pulley by hand once the belt is off to check for roughness and play.
