top engine mount split
Hello all, this is my first posting so excuse me if it's in wrong category. I recently put my car in for service. On receiving it back there were a few problems noted down on the service sheet.
Uneven wear to rear brake discs, top engine mount split and slight leak from power steering tank, suspect fault with hose. Could someone please explain these in a little more depth and are they the sort of problems I could tackle myself. the brakes and leak from power steering tank I'm pretty confident. Would the uneven wear to brake discs just be a case of changing pads or would I have to change discs as well? All help greatly appreciated. thanks, Robbie. |

Worth doing a search on this forum (using the yellow search button above) but here's my recent post on doing the top engine mount for starters. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=40363
very easy. I guess that by the fact they have said the disks are worn unevenly they are probably suggesting they should be changed. again, supposedly an easy job but still have to do it on mine. The parts aren't cheap! see this recent thread also. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=40382 Hope this helps, Tim. |

Usually plenty of petrol ones knocking around on Ebay if this is what you need, you'll probably find the genuine ones from a dealer are not much more expensive though. |

theres a couple on ebay but they are not for the D5 even though seller claims they are..at £35 you can get the proper mount from dealership.

Job done.
After visiting this site a few times decided to tackle the jobs myself and save a small fortune. Changed the top engine mount in about half an hour, then the discs and pads (rear) in about 3 hours. Could have probably done quicker but these were first major jobs ever done on car. Info on here and vadis instructions show you how simple things can be if you're not afraid to have a go. One thing though, when I took discs of there was a contraption on the axle that sat in the disc drum. This was corroded and worn that bad that half of it fell off when I took the disc off. Can someone please tell me what this is called as I need to replace them. thanks again.

Cheers, think it was because when they fell apart my hand brake was virtually useless. Pulled right up and had no tension in it. Will try and replace them. Just a ballache coz gonna have to dismantle all the hard work I did today. Ah well, learnt a bit and saved a lot. This forum great, given me confidence to try stuff myself.
