1986 240 SE Automatic Estate For Sale
I bought this car from a dealer in Sept 2009. It had 68,497 miles on the clock then and now has 104,125.
The only work I have had done is a replacement exhaust tailpipe, new front discs and pads and a replacement overdrive relay. The car is taxed until January 2012 and MOT ends 11 July 2010. There is a slight ding in the drivers door but it's rather difficult to see, although I hope it shows in the photo. There is also a ding in the front offside wheel arch where I tried to get a big car into a small garage! This is also shown in the photos. I'm having to sell her as I work as a carer and cannot afford the current petrol prices. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need further information...Thanks |

Dyslexia rules once more! Thanks for pointing out the error.
As to price I'm not sure what the value is. I paid £1900 from a dealer in Southampton so I suppose somewhere in the region of £1600 is what I'm looking for. |

Nice motor but.....
Good luck with the sale, but at the risk of sounding a bit downbeat, I think that your valuation is a bit hopeful.
£1900 from a dealer 20 months ago was top dollar then - and included a dealer's profit margin. At private sale that probably would have raised nearer £1200. There's a very very similar car on Ebay just now: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WHITE-VOLVO-ES...item1c1a55e5be Your car's not quite Classic Car show material, so won't yet command the premium that would go with that. The reality is that you're finding your car to be too thirsty to run - and sadly, so will most other buyers. And the question is, what are you going to replace it with? You might get lucky and find a buyer on here, but we've all got Volvos, and much as we'd all like another, things are tight for most of us! It looks to be a very handsome motor, but I'd guess that on Ebay or in Autotrader-land you'll be lucky to sell it for much more than £900. Presumably you're thinking of buying another car? If I might make a suggestion, why not investigate getting LPG-converted. Classicswede on here is offering some cracking deals right now, and you'd get to keep a car that you know, and that you've already invested in. Your fuel bills would be around 60% of what they are now. If you're driving 2,000 miles per month you'd recover your capital costs very quickly. I have an LPG-converted Volvo, and I can promise you it is a good move if you're a high-mileage driver. This is only my personal opinion of course. This forum has a well-deserved reputation for straight-talking practical views, and it's in that spirit that I make these comments. It'd be a shame if you end up selling the car for £900, spending several thousand to buy a Fiat Panda or something, only to see your ex-pride and joy in two months time, LPG'd, rolling up the M27 and benefiting someone else's pocket! Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but to sell on a smart car like yours with low mileage, in nice order and your money already spent on it seems a crying shame. Cheers Jack |

Thanks Capt Jack for your post. I had no idea of the value of the car (as you can see! lol). Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to have a conversion done so will still have to sell it and use the funds to buy some crappy little run around...not to worry, there are loads of people worse off than me.
Tobyhead...I'd love to sell it to you for around £1,200. |
