960 timing belt replacement
I will be replacing the timing belt along with the tensioner pulley and idler roller on my 960, is there a special tool requited for this job ?

You might get more replies posting in the technical rather than sales section.
If yours is the straight six whiteblock then you will need something to lock the camshafts and something that fits the 21mm square hole in the serpentine belt tensioner. The Volvo tool for the latter is 9995547. I chickened out of doing mine myself, especially bearing in mind they are interference engines and if you get it wrong it could cause a lot of damage. I do the belts on my 940 redblocks myself. These are fairly easy but I would strongly recommend using the correct crankshaft pulley retaining tool (9995284 for four cylinder redblocks) both for safety and to avoid damaging anything. If you’re planning on removing any of the pulleys, e.g. to replace seals, then a counterhold tool is useful. I’ve got on fine with a generic/adjustable one but Volvo do OEM ones at a price. |
