I ordered a new OE compressor from Rockauto. Couldn't find a good price in the UK. The one autodoc was bringing up with my reg looked like the wrong one. The right one was not in stock and £750! I suspect the Valeo catalogue is wrong.
Anyway, I cross-referenced with the Volvo part number (36002114) and that corresponds to Valeo 813141 and that's what Rockauto was suggesting, too. I hope it's not the wrong one. It looks like the clutch should come off without too much trouble. I'll take the clutch off the new compressor and post some images since I was struggling to find anything on the internet. If it looks like just replacing the clutch can't be done, I might bite the bullet and get Volvo to do it. They reckon 2.5-3h labour. Not too bad. Probably looking at a grand all in. Plus the money wasted on the compressor. I hate AC work and I want a decent warranty if I have anything done.

To bring this threat to a conclusion, it was the correct compressor. Identical to the OE one - or at least the clutch was.
It was a pleasant surprise that the clutch was relatively easy to swap out with the compressor in situ. The only tricky bit was stopping the pulley rotating while unscrewing the retaining bolt. I had to use vice grips. Once the old clutch was out, it was quite clear what the problem was: The rubber "spring plate" has melted and detached from the centre of the pulley. I used the clutch and the shims from the new compressor which gave me the same 0.5*mm air gap. I suppose I've got a spare compressor body for future use if necessary. Anyway, the AC is blowing ice cold again and the car seems all good. Happy days. Thanks for all your input.
