I find an old spark plug has the perfect thread for lamada bosses when you dont want a sensor in there. Think the one i used was from a Ford Pinto engine.

I used a bolt. But I like your solution Chesh (.... it's half of a 'shoot flames from the exhaust' kit ... )

I bought another set of GLT seats and used the best combination of parts to improve the interior.

The old driver's seat


Work in progress


Seats temporarily refitted, but soon they will be removed and resprayed with gliptone leather paint


The GLT is still sold.... but not to Nick who phoned me to confirm the sale, then a few days later reneged on the deal (booooo...!).

Anyway, another friend wants it now, and he's bought two 240s from me before, so I am confident he will be more reliable to do business with.

A quick update.

One or two minor, occasional electrical gremlins had started recently, so it was time for a thorough clean-up of every terminal connector and fuse in the fusebox - always worth doing every couple of years on a 240.





The heated rear screen fuse had actually melted. Not blown, but the plastic part had become so hot from resistance at the fuse-holder terminal that it had melted.

As expected almost everything now works, bar a couple of bulbs I need to buy.

Small lesson there. Always use ceramic fuses. They dissipate the heat better and don't get shorter as they soften and so reduce the holding pressure.

I bet someone out there thinks a bit OTT using a Dremel, but a proper job needs a proper tool. Good for the box itself but a potential fuse destroyer unless you are VERY careful.

Yes, we swapped all the fuses for ceramic ones.

Definitely a job to add to the list for my car.

I'd never had any fuse related electrical issues in my 240 and never cleaned up the fuse terminals to date.

However doing a bit of prep today for the MOT tomorrow I noticed the heated rear screen isn't coming on (even the light on the switch doesn't fire up). A quick switch round of fuses didn't cure so cleaning up the terminals will be my next port of call. Fortunately I don't think HRW is a must for the MOT.
