Dare I put on my pedant hat and point out that those are the 7.5" wide Eiker E1 copies...?

I thought the B230E was 130bhp...I guess that must have been the earlier higher compression version, as I see this is set up for 95 octane.

cheers

James

Haha! I have my pedant hat on as well James. I didn't say they were Polaris...

I don't know. I'm not an expert on these new-fangled overhead camshaft motors (where are the pushrods?) but various knowledgeable types have quoted 130, 131, and 136bhp. But no-one predicted 125.

It's not much power for a big car, but still, it goes quite well and this will be adequate until we put something fast in there!

True...but you got away with that by the narrowest of margins!

136 was the B23E with the K cam. The older B23E with the H cam made 140.
Yeah, 130/131 is the number I'm familiar with. I bet it's the compression ratio...

cheers

Well there's progress for you. With fundamentally the same engine, after a few year's intensive development work, Volvo managed to loose over 10% of the power...

Peak power, anyway. I suspect (given the 'A' cam in the 'E' engines was shorter duration) that it was in the name of low-down grunt and fuel efficiency...and potentially improving emissions.

cheers

according to my handbook my car was really meant to run on super unleaded- hence the idle was never 100% smooth when i ran it on 95...

still it was always good for low down grunt as you say james. and then just picked up once you got past 4000 rpm

i did find though occasions when more power would have been a good move!

Which year was yours, Nick? I doubt the idle was octane related, to be honest...I blame teh K-Jets.

cheers
