The trouble is that they have a smaller centre bore than those needed for a 900 (or 2,7,9, s60, *70, s80). The Ford inspired c30, s40, v50, c70 range uses Ford pattern hubs with a narrower bore so the wheels would have to be drilled out to fit first, and then spacers needed due to the offset.

Nothing that can't be fixed using a suitably huge lathe

James - knock yourself out: http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=72501

Yes, they've made a few...!

Bear in mind that not all are bolt-ons. All 5-stud Volvo rims from 140/160s onwards should be 5x108, but the offset and centre-bore differ. Generally speaking, offset is grouped into "RWD" (~20) and "FWD" (~40), although post-facelift 960s / S/V90s used FWD hubs, so use FWD-fitment rims (and can fit 850 big brake kits!). As Rupert pointed out, the centre bore is different on the (Ford-based) C30/S40/V50/C70 family.

The offset difference can be compensated for using spacers (typically ~25mm) when wanting to fit FWD rims to RWD models...which is the more useful way round to have it! 240s look amazing on Propus and Titans. I don't think I've seen them on Comets, but I bet they look great too.

If you're feeling loaded, Ferrari also use the 5x108 wheel bolt pattern - I have a set of 3-piece compomotive racing wheels that were originally fitted to a ferrari 308 GTB racer. The PCD, centrebore and backspace are all right on the money, but they need a new set of outer lips to fit under the 240's arches (or forest arches fitting... hmmm.)

Newer Fords, Ford-based Jags, and some Renaults also use 5x108, but as mentioned you'll need to machine out the centre and use spacers to get them to fit right.

To be strictly accurate the offset for FWD cars is 43mm for '95 onward 960's, S/V90's, 850's and P1 S70/V70/C70/V70XC's. The P2 cars (S60, V70, S80, XC70 and XC90) have a 49mm offset. I've no idea about the P3 cars though, sorry......

I am feeling ill at the moment, so no more work done on the car. I did manage to find the strength to look through the documentation though!

Both the service book and the handbook wallet are specially branded for the tourist/diplomat sales.

The cruise control is a "VDO tempostat"

Installation instructions for the graphic equaliser

The service history, although not fully complete or all-Volvo, is better than I thought

Service mileages:
626
9,611
18,706
30,630
41,935
50,573
61,465
68,405
81,850
107,574
113,693
... and there the record stops, although the previous owner has clearly done some servicing. The oil, distributor cap, plugs leads are new, the fuel filter is fairly new and the handbrake has been adjusted. However, the fan belts were loose and squealing when we picked up the car, so I can't rely on the completeness of recent work. It has now done 151,500 miles.

I also have some details of the original owner, so I might politely try to get in touch.

I'm very much hoping I feel better for the weekend, so we can do the planned work on the car.

John

Good stuff John. I notice the cambelt has been changed, albeit 12 years ago!!

By the way, I have lots of goodies for you in the back of my car, each and every one is volvo branded!

Well, ten-and-a-bit years, but I know what you mean!

Excellent. Thanks for sorting all that. I also need coolant, but I'd hope that any Volvo garage would have that in stock.

The tailgate wiring looms have arrived from pfv. Nick has advised me on how to do those without removing the tailgate - do one side at a time from inside the car.
