Simple case of a tyre change while tired and it was raining and cold (getting my excuses in early)

So I pulled the jack out and the spare tyre (which I later found, also had a puncture). In the dark, I place the jack under the car and begin to raise the jack.

Crack.

Yup.
I misplaced the jack and it has gone through something very crunchy at the front of the car.
Without pictures, could anyone tell me what it may have been?
It is just behind the front passenger side wheel. It comes together as a circle. It is pretty thin and seems like it's made from fibreglass, but there is chassis metal behind it.

Any ideas?

Also, where are the actual jack points?

Not sure what you've hit but the jack point is this bit on the right (looking from underneath) Its like bar between two triangles hook that the factory jack hooks into or you can use a normal trolley jack with a bit of wood on it to jack from here.

Yeah, right on the edge of the bodywork? Like, under the door?

I would think (without the benefit of sight or feel) that your jack has gone through the floorpan or the inner sill structure. Time for some welding!

IIRC, there is a round 'plate' thing around the point you mention. I only know as years back a 'mec' jacked mine up & did, what I think was the same thing. It came clean out. Had a sort of a rim so it was 'stuck' back in with some auto-silicone
The only thing I can think is that it is a 'blanking plate' which would be used if the shell had been used for an LHD model?

EDIT: Just had a look at mine. The thing I'm on about is just aft' of the jacking point on the near-side.

I've found a pic of the thing I'm on about from when I was 'leak hunting' . This is of the drivers side, but has a similar one on the near-side ...... Also puts paid to my previous thought of it being a blank plate for LHD, lol.



That 'round thing' thats full of water is what I mean.

I'm pretty sure they are big plastic/rubber grommets that are sprayed over when the car is made. The holes must be the result of how the panels are manufactured. The floor of my 480 was also dotted with them.

Yup. The photo above is exactly what I hit.

It wasn't metal though, so that sort of agrees with the 'blanking plate' idea.
Also, there did seem to be a fair bit of water come out of it... But it was raining, so maybe it just created a channel where before there was none.

So, the auto-silicone thing seems to be the best solution, I'll get on that once it's a bit warmer.
