Default T5 Miles per gallon

I have just bought a 2003 MY V70 T5 Geartronic and am very pleased indeed with it. Yesterday I drove 300+ miles to Sheffield and back from Bury St Edmunds on a mixture of dual carriageway and motorways, with a bit of running around in Sheffield itself.

I was really chuffed with a readout of 40.8 mpg overall; the readout before I did the stop/start stuff in the city centre was 42.6 mpg. I tend to cruise at around 60 mph (real speed, not as indicated by the speedometer) and am pretty gentle, but I was nevertheless really rather surprised by the economy.

Is this in line with what others achieve in similar circumstances?

I would imagine in town a T5 would be in the mid 20s somewhere and 35 maybe 40 at a push on a run. End of the day though you have a T5, drop a cog and go for it lol

Hi peeps

I've just picked up my first ever Volvo - 2.5 petrol T5 in a gorgeous flint grey and I have to say what beautiful cars they are I commute from Nottingham to Leicester daily so really hoping I can achieve something around the 40mpg range. I've owned a ford cougar 2.5 V6 for the past 4 years; but while extremely good fun to drive and handled like a dream, I was only getting 26mpg. Anyways as a new member of the forum as of today I look forwards to getting involved in some of the varied topics .......... Pleased to meet you all peeps

Well, I do drop a couple of gears and go for it on occasions; there would be no point in owning a T5 and not doing so every now and then, but yesterday was one of those days when economy was uppermost in my mind.

I drove the car back from Yorkshire when I bought it a fortnight ago and got 40.0 mpg, but could do no better. I have run some STP fuel system and injector cleaner through it since then and yesterday I filled up with Shell V Power fuel before the journey. So one of those products works. Possibly they both work, so now I have to discover which one it is.

It really depends on what year it is, older cars won't get the smae mpg as their younger, more efficent brothers/sisters. Mine does around 26 around town and mid to late 30's on a run.

I've always used v-power in mine but strangely, since switching to normal shell unleaded, my mpg has gone up and a fuel pressure problem has gone.

T5 is either a 2.4 or a 2.3, never done a 2.5 did they?
the 2.5 is either the lpt or the "R"
on the mpg figures mine realy never goes above 20-21 mpg in daily use. on a run I tend to get 27-30 mpg but I do get there quickly

40+mpg!!!??? In a T5? Auto? I assume you're going downhill, with a tail wind and the engine off?

You sure you bought a T5 and not a D5 haha? I struggle to keep my long term economy (or lack of) above 30mpg!

Ringsting is right on this one, although the later T5 in the s40, v50 etc was a 2.5
