V40 vvt chatter, wrong/broken replacement part?
Hi all.
Hopefully this is just a quick one. For starters anyway, think I've given up and will just accept this makes an annoying noise, constant or intermittently and idles high at 1200 when cold. All of which started a year ago with just the on off clicking sounding from the vvt which usdused to go away after I bliped the engine. How I miss that being the only issue.. I'm sure this stance will not last and I'll be irate about it shortly. Right now my question is simple I hope. Do I have to do anything extra that would allow a new vvt sensor to operate correctly besides bolting on and plugging in? Got a £25 cheep chinese one from ebay which appears to not like my engine secured to its current mounts. Removed now and old one put back on. Old. Problems back but engine doesn't want to self disassemble. Asking before I kindly ask for money back. Thanks guys! V40 2002 1.8 petrol. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/9454789-3...-127635-2958-0 |

More often,... it's usually the VVT pulley/sprocket that's worn & making the noise, rather than the valve / solenoid . Sometimes changing the oil & filter may improve things, as it can raise the oil pressure slightly ? But the only long term solution is to replace the VVT pulley/ sprocket .

Thanks for the reply!
I was aware of the pully being a the potential culprit for the array of issues, but for the sake of 25 quid, the small chance of the issue being the solonoid and the considerably less work that needed doing I thought go for that first. But, the question I have is should the engine want to die and rock all over the shop when I plug this new solonoid in or should it be exactly the same? I suspect the new solonoid is either wrong, faulty or dodgy and I'm looking for confirmation that this isn't right before I gun for a refund? |

Having the solenoid connected or not shouldn't affect the actual running of the engine. The VVT was introduced to improve mpg and emissions in order to save the polar bears.
