Latest thoughts are a Nissan 200 SX and the Mazda RX7 is uninsurable through my present company! **it!!

The Scooby is a quick motor! the Saab 900/ 93 Ragtop is less to insure and the BMW 728i is a hundred quid more but worth twice as much. Any thoughts, gang?

Well at the Moment I can think of 1250 reasons and they are all trying to get out of my pocket and into the thieving hand of a gearbox specialist!! I would rather say two tears in the bucket and F**k it!! I came I played It broke I went home...

Of course if someone can tell me a good reason why I should buy another steaming heap of Sh.... er I mean, another great fast Volvo, then I am all ears.

I would like a V70R Estate. But I am not overly impressed with the build quality at the moment and thinking that a 40k Nissan with 200+ BHP would be a safer bet.

It depends what you want the car for?? I had an imported MR2 Turbo which was quick and fun, but insurance was twice the price of the T5. I've got a baby due in the next week so the volvo has the room for all it's kit and ours, with added performance and luxury. At least with yours, you know what it's like and what faults it has. Your next car is another unknown.

Try ringing more places for quotes on your gearbox, or try a few breakers for a second hand one.

I cant speak for the 'new' FWD volvos, but we have had 4 RWD ones, and never a problem with build quality. The danger with the T5 is that it attracts a new kind of driver - the sort who dont know how to look after a car! When buying second hand, you cant tell how it has been driven in the past.

High mileage can actually be a good thing - dads 940 had 100k in 3 years put on it - that means its just cruised up and down the motorway all day, which the car loves.

My friends late model 460 has just dropped its gearbox - he 'fixed' it himself first time, and it didnt last. my advice would be to get a pro to sort it out, and get back to enjoying yer T5! better the devil you know is a very good piece of advice! if you get that gearbox rebuilt to pro standards, and drive reasonably sensibly (suppress the devil in you!) it will last for another 200k at least!

cheers

Loz,

Nerver driven the Nissan or Mazda, but my cousin was told by his local scooby dealer if you buy a fast one, keep it standard, service it regularly or you will suffer the same as you have with this T5.

I drove a Saab 93 2.0 Hot Coupe (dutch name have no idea what it is in the UK, but it has the 2.0 turbo engine). The car went like **it off a hot shovel, but wallowed like hell in the corners, although never slid (friends company car, didn;t really want to *push* it). And for the 728, get one with a bigger engine, I know a couple of people who have owned them and they reckon that the 2.8 is underpowered for the car - aparently the 3.5 has the ability to make you lose your licence unless you wathch the speedo (I know you'd never speed on the open road would you ;) )

Apart from the gearbox, whats the rest of the car like - if thats okay then why not bite the bullet and get a new box - it'd be cheaper than the money you would lose selling it and getting another.

Good luck mate

To be fair it did do 160k miles...
An MR2 would have no hope of reaching that milage...

I've jut brought a BMW M3 EVO...

I've still the S70 as well...

Err, an MR2 will do that mileage on one clutch - I speak from experience. I had a '92 J plate 2.0GTi-16 T-Bar before the spitty as did a friend in my office. Mine was 60K his was 150K and his was still just as quick as mine (150mph), used exactly the same amount of oil and the only issue he had was the clutch. I would love to buy another MR2 as it is the most comfortable and (2nd - the spit is race prepped!) best handling car I have owned.

My cousin had a MK1 MR2 with that kind of mileage too, the build quality is fantastic on them too (far better than the 440). The only couple of grips I had were the sound (outside it sounded like a 2.0 toyota) and 0-60 only came in 7 secs (although it does weight 1300KG, and had no turbo). Plus 170bhp without a turbo from a 2.0l lump is not that bad!

How's the evo then Gareth (and how many flashes have you seen....)

I havent seen any flashes... (Too quick for em :) )

A friend of mine used to import MR2's the twin charger ones. They used to have nothing but problems with the high milage club...
