Default Holly mother of God!! My Gearbox has died! HE

okay,

So I thought the timing belt was my biggest problem. NO!! x:

Driving to work as normal and all of a sudden my gearbox feels a little notchy in low gears crawling in traffic. then bosh! Park at work and go for reverse. Nothing doing... Feels like it would go in forward gears but don't want to push it away from the wall and try it in case it makes it worse! 161000 miles. maybe I need a new one? question is do I need a new car or a new gearbox?

Anyone know what it might be? er.. and I guess I better loose the bleed valve... good job I never put that on then isn't it...

It's a recovery job and almost certainly a recon autobox - there are alternative sources for autoboxes other than main dealers, but (without checking) I bet T5-Rs have different ratios, which will make it tricky to get an "ex-scrapper" to replace it.

You are definitely talking four figures and I'm afraid several of them.

It is now time to work out whether you want to keep the car...

Sorry to hear about that mate - I lost mine about a year ago, thankfully not volvo prices for a new one - but posting a gearbox from the Netherlands to the UK was fun........

Good luck in finding a replacement, and I hope your luck with the car improves soon.
