Default Which pads for AP kit?

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a set of pads to fit to my AP 4 pot callipers.

Phil you've said the Ferodo DS2500 are good- are you using them?

I've been using Green stuff and whilst they are fine on my friends Pug GTI6 I find they fade too quickly when doing roundabout/ dual carriageway work ;-)
--------------

PS- being told today I should be using red stuff and not green stuff due to the weight of the car. Any comments?

Andy,

Weight is a problem - it saw my greenstuff pads off pretty quickly.

AP suggested I talk to "Circuit Supplies" (Distributor) who suggested the DS2500 pads. They had developed them specifically for people who wanted a halfway house between the DS2000 (like greenstuff - small car/fast road) and the DS3000 (racing - eat your discs) and logically enough called them DS2500.

I have found that they leave much less pad material on the discs than the greenstuff did - and so there is less vibration and noise. They also stop a lot better - it really has made a difference. The DS2500 make a bit more mess in terms of dust - but I think that is acceptable given that brakedust is to be expected with performance brakes anyway.

With regard to Red Stuff - as I understand it they are a much harder "track day" compound and will wear your discs very quickly - like DS3000 would. They would also probably not perform as well until they were really up to temperature either, where Greenstuff and DS2500 are formulated to work across a range of temperatures.

Regards,

Phil :-)

Thanks Phil,

Received Ferodo DS2500 (part no. FRP216H) from Circuit Supplies (01525 385888) this morning. I'll post in the future as to how I get on with them. I hope they are better as I will have to get some new disks by re-mortgaging the house!! ;-)

Hi Phil,

Are the Greenstuff the business as i wasn't impressed with my oem pads around the track last visit. I used to have red dot from halfords before and still have their slots but they rattled something rotten in the calipers especially on our hot days :-)

I have tried mintex but they squeal like an old bus so i am looking for a decent answer to stoppppping quickly.

thanks,

mark

Mark,

Gotta be honest - my experience of the Greenstuff was not good.... they dont do well with heavy cars apparently!

I went for the Ferodos in the AP kit as that was recommended by the AP distributor.... if your running OE discs then you could try Circuit Supplies, talk to Tim for some sound advice - or give Don Norchi a shout at Kalmar Union - he has some excellent products too.

Regards,

Phil :-)

Red stuff is a hard enough compound not to disintegrate with the heat on the front - but it will EAT the AP discs like nobodys business...... which is why they recommended me the Ferodos instead..

I understand that Red Stuff on the OE discs is really good stopping, but again eats discs and is only recommended for Track use..... I think!

Phil :-)

Had the DS2500 fitted 4 days ago.

I was told to get them up to race temp and then allow them to cool overnight.
Took them out that night and nailed them ;-)

They have transformed the braking, good initial bite, even when cold, and fantastic when hot.

I've now got what I originally thought I was going to get with an AP kit.

Thanks for the advice Phil. :) :) :)
