Brand new V40 with HK audio
Hello,
First post, mainly because I can't find any info on the HK media system that's in my Volvo. I recently got a brand new V40 Ocean Race D4 with the high performance HK audio system and DAP+. I'm having several issues and questions. None of the lossless audio formats I tried seem to be supported. Is there any lossless format that works? A 2.5" USB harddisk is not recognized. Any ideas whether this should work or not? I converted some albums to mp3. Any ideas on whether I need CBR or should VBR be fully supported as well? The system supports reading tags from the files, but it looks like its not sorting the tracks properly on track #, but sorts on name. How can I sort on Track #? And, I apologize but I have to get this off my chest, forgive me. This audio system dates from the 90's or something? It sounds alright but, no proper lossless support? Not even WAV? How about replaygain? What about proper tag reading? Properly shuffle maybe? Playlists? And don't get me started on high res, 24/96. C'mon what are they thinking? This suxx ... (!!). |

Thanks for the link. It's full of errors though. AAC is limited to 48 kHz and not 96 as mentioned there and bitrate for wav can't be limited to 16 kbps per channel.
Basically that says that via USB its limited to mp3, mp4, wma, aac, m4a, m4b. No lossless (and that's not a lot to be honest). So, the other formats are supported ... how exactly? Not from CD/DVD because that's limited to even less formats: mp3, wma, aac, m4a. So what's the point of supporting WAV when you can't play it? The internal disk is too small to be useful. How is anyone else using a system like this? How about the tagging and sorting of tracks? |

Alright ... let me ask something else.
In the armrest there is a 12v plug. What if I buy a USB charger plug for that and get a Y-cable for the harddisk, so it is powered through the 12V plug. Early 2.5" USB harddisks had one of those cables too so you could plug it into 2 USB ports so that it could draw enough power. Would that work? But is no one else having trouble with how his system reads the tagging? My tags are 100% correct but it seems the system isn't using track # to sort in albums. The only solution I see is to edit the track name and include the track #. Please tell me there is another solution? Thanks. |
