the btphone_p3phm-v20231201-1 is the firmware not compatible with the previous versions. it has a little different way to update the firmware. and it always requires the USB recovery way from any older firmware than v20231201-1.
i have to create the new documentation. and i hope that i finish it this weekend or the next one.
so i would like to recommend that you wait a while. you save an extra disassembly.

finally after a quite long time the new version of the firmware is here. but this time it is the new from the scratch (same as P2 version, that you can find on the another thread).

v20240121-1 - documentation and firmware

the change is so huge that the update from the older versions is not possible to do with the standard way but it has to be done by USB recovery, see the documentation.

any inconsistencies please write here so I can learn and others don't have to struggle with it.

v20240303-1 - documentation and firmware

sometimes it has caused that the MOST has "frozen" (MOST extension) if engine was not started directly (the ignition on and then start the engine) and the battery was not fully charged.

Hello!

Today I finally got some free time to disassemble the PHM from my car because my phone function doesn't really work since around Christmas last year, when I tried to upload new firmware. With the first firmware it worked for a few months without any problem and then it probably got messed up somehow while upgrading new firmware. Since then, only FM Bluetooth transmitter is working.

Today I finally did USB recovery (probably some 15 times with different phones, laptops and firmwares) but no success. I tried first with btphone_p3phm_firmware - 20240317-1 and then with two older versions. Results are the same.

When I put it back in the car it says "PHONE Please wait..." and then "Insert SIM card." It's constantly connecting and disconnecting from my phone Bluetooth while I'm waiting PHM to connect. It doesn't show name of my phone, connecting device, syncing or D5T5 BT

I think that now my FM transmitter is not working also but maybe Im wrong.

When I'm on my laptop, following the procedure step by step by the letter, all seems to be ok, I think. But whatever device I'm using for uploading the firmware I'm getting the same result.

It is a shame because I really need this PHM to work and I paid a lot for it.

Marek, can you please try to help me? Maybe I'm missing something or maybe device is faulty? Maybe I'm doing something wrong in the car? I'm connecting PHM with 2 cables and antenna for FM transmitter.

Btw, I really appreciate your effort to develop this beautiful piece of hardware and software, but I also hope that I will not ask for my money back 😭

Thanks and cheers!

Hello marekbm!

First of all sorry for writing here but Im not able to send you PM.

Can I ask you please to try to help me with my problem because my car is still disassembled since the day I posted in the forum tread. I'm still waiting for some advice regarding my module so I'm driving around without my glovebox with everything exposed behind it. Soon, I will need to go for a trip and I would like to reassemble it so my passenger seat can be used.

Thank you in advance,
Nick

hi,
i am sorry. the first notification has received while i was on vacation and i have forgotten to ansfer it after that.

if i understand then you did not finish the USB recovery properly. if yes then there is no chance to make it operate properly. it will stay in the default bootloader waiting to load firmware from USB. so you have to do it properly.
but what i am not understand it that you have mentioned USB recovery and phone. but USB recovery is not possible to do with the phone but it require the computer (desktop or laptop).

so at the moment nothing is working because there is not firmware.

so follow the instructions for USB recovery and let me exactly know in which step you have failed.
documentation anf firmware

Hello!

Thank you for answering. I did it just like it is in your instructions tutorial more than 30 times. What I meant is that I tried different laptops for USB recovery.

Yesterday I tried again couple of times but with no success. LED sequence seems ok through all the stages but maybe I'm wrong. I can send some video for your confirmation. It's just when I put it back in the car I'm getting "Please wait" and "insert SIM card". I can even make video when I'm connecting it in the car with LEDs visible if you want.

Is there any specific procedure on how to connect the phone to module in the car for the first time?

And one more thing, in the SAM-BA v2.18 (on win10) I can't find the exact board number in dropdown menu. My board number is ATSAM4S8B AN (I will upload the pic)

Cheers!

you have to be more specific regarding "no success". what part failed? flashing bootloader via USB, flashing the firmware via bluetooth or just after that (trying to operate in normal condition)?

there is a chance that this new firmware (from some reason) has something what can cause some incompatibility (model and the year).

you can try to flash (via USB) the "btphone_p3gsm.btb" file from the old "BT Phone P3GSM - v2022-02-22_1.zip" firmware. if it starts working then it is the issue in the new firmware. if not then the PHM can be in some specific state that i have never reached. in this case you have to put the genuine GSM modem into it and keep it starting to operate. after that you can put the bluetooth module back.

regarding the board name in sam-ba application:
you have to choose the "at91sam4s8-ek" as it is mentioned in the documentation.

at the moment the best is to make some videos when you are flashing bootloader and firmware. nothing needs to be put into the PHM back. after that i will let you know how we*will continue.

Thank you marek,

today I will try what you recommended. I have one question, how should I flash (via USB) the "btphone_p3gsm.btb"? Through SAM-BA? First bootloader and then btphone_p3gsm.btb? What is the procedure?

Thanks!

UPDATE:

I made short on JP2, waited for 10 seconds, run SAM-BA as Administrator and flashed "btphone_p3gsm.btb" (without bootloader).
Then I tried to connect the phone couple of times but it would sync up to only 58% before I got messages "Insert SIM card" and "5+raUitm".

I'm sending you YouTube link.
