Default DIM replacement, no mileage display, mileage correction?

Hello all,

Fairly newbie here, just bought a XC90 as a project which has a few issues. I do know one end of a spanner from another but am on a learning curve somewhat with VADIS etc.

Before I continue I would make the point that this car has been worked on by people who know not what they are doing...

So when I bought the car it was said to have 141k on it which is backed up by service history and MOT. However a second hand DIM was fitted which is showing 180k - the reason given for replacement was that the air bag light was on and this was a fault with the original DIM. The original DIM was in the boot so I re-fitted it and cleared the SRS system service error using VADIS.

However the mileage display is now blank - everything else seems to work - I know it's not the backlight bulb as when you do a DIM gauges and lamps test using VADIS the mileage segments do test okay.

However when you read the vehicle details using VADIS it says total distance is 678947.45 miles/1092660 km !!

A DTC of DIM-0001 Mileage Manipulated is logged.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I post this in the V70/S60 forums as I think they use the same DIM ?

Thanks in anticipation,

Richard

It sounds like both DIMs might be knackered , , the mileage is stored elsewhere in the car as well so if you change a DIM the correct mileage is restored , but if the other DIMs have been tampered with who knows what has happened . The correct way for them to have dealt with this is to get the DIM repaired £ 50 ... You could get the original repaired and try putting it back and get the software reloaded ... That might work . Otherwise its a new DIM .

Thanks for that. Has anyone any experience with Cartronix? They claim to be a Volvo (and others) DIM specialist, I spoke with them yesterday and they said pretty much the same as yourself.

Going to send the original DIM off on Monday, it's a £99 fixed price and no fix no fee arrangement.

I used volvodiagnostic.com for my dash repair. Cost about £60.
