Default Speedo Head or complete Instrument Cluster.

For my 1992 940 estate, 2.0 litre, petrol, non turbo.
The speedometer has failed but odometer still working. Have replaced the leaking capacitors and re-connected the coil wires to the posts as they had detached when we de-soldered the posts to remove the PCB but still not working.
Does anyone know which other models use the same instrument cluster?

I had similar trouble with my '89 740. Odometer stopped working and found a fix at - http://www.volvotips.com/index.php/7...740-tripmeter/

I got the cogwheel from http://www.ets1.nl/home.html [Use a web page translator]. The contact email address is found at the very bottom of webpage.

I broke my speedo by being heavy handed in the repair of my cogwheel sent the unit off and Erich repaired it for me, very promptly. It does come with a price tag though, for one small cogwheel seen in the repair link, 30 Euro! plus £10 bank transfer fee! I sent my unit off for repair, 102 Euro/£82, yet to pay this though.. until payday.

He should be able to help if you get stuck or need a professional touch. Hope it helps.

Thanks AHedge740 for the info. We based our diagnosis and repairs on the info. at "www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/ElectricalSpeedometerRepair.htm" The speedo itself had been working intermittently for a while but the odometer was working fine so we presumed that the signal from the diff. was OK. Now the odometer is intermittent as well. I'll fit the replacement cluster complete once it arrives and see what happens. I've also stumbled across info.which attributes intermittent speedo faults to a bad earth in the footwell but I haven't been able to follow that up yet.

Default Replacement obtained and fitted.

Many thanks to Jay940 who supplied a complete replacement cluster. I fitted it as received and it is fully operational.
