Default Where to mask the headlight for France driving?

Hi Folks,

Of to Disney Paris tommorrow. Can anyone describe where on the headlight I need to mask off. Wont be needed outward journey, but will be returning in dark so really should attend to this as I go through the tunnel.

Description or a diagram will be gratefully received.

Thanks Ian

You'll need to do this no matter what time of day you'll be driving. It's illegal to be driving in France even in daylight without your headlights masked. The French police love to pull the Brits over and do them for this!

I buy the stick-on beam deflectors, and they sit below the centreline and on the driver's side of each lamp.

Here's how I usually do it for european trips. I use self adhesive aluminium foil available form RS components or Farnell and doubtless many other places too. Last time I bought some it cost about £5 for 50m - this will last for many trips abroad. It's cheap, effective, doesn't interfere with the headlamp wipers and doesn't fall off.

Hopefully the photos show how it works on my 1998 V70.

Thank you for the photos. I'm off tomorrow evening and they'll be invaluable.

Watch out on the autoroute from Calais to Paris for the French police. In October saw a fair bit of police activity catching speeders. Best of luck enjoy your holiday.

Thanks Martin
Just realised last time i went to France i stuck the stuff on the wrong place :S

I normally just use black insulation tape to completely block out the projection of light to the wrong side, cheap stuff at like £0.30

been abroad numerous times, and never been tugged.

Especially going to le mans, the police are out in force, never been stopped due to no masking on the headlights

Nor me, and I drove the 940 in 14 different countries last year, including the UK. I never mask the lights

I have only put the headlamp masks on why driving at night abroad. Never had a problem with the Police with the lack of deflectors.
