I have just braved the cold (the ice has not yet started to melt here yet) to look at mine and it looks very similar to yours. I have taken pictures but my first attempts to upload seem to have failed! I will try again but will say that I start to feel a resistance when closing when the lid is a few inches from being shut but I ignore this and push down until fully closed.
I can see a mark on the front edge of the hinge where it has rubbed on the tyre and wondered if I loosened the bolt shown in the top centre of your picture and pushed the hinge up (you can see an elongated hole for adjustment) this would help but not yet brave enough to try! |

If you play about with the hinges you will loose the boot lid alignment. What i've done is let some air out of the tyre. It's not a problem as I cary a battery operated pump I could re inflate it again an a few minutes. I think that tyres must have got fatter since the 144 first came on the market

sorry for going off topic Arcturus, though it sounds like you solved the problem, but whilst there are some pictures of the boot on show, can anyone tell me if the (what looks like plastic) boot hinge 'struts' are obtainable? one of my has burst and it's spring is hanging out - no sign of the end of it. When I say 'strut' I mean 'piston' 'damper' ????
Or is there a way of fixing them? I did notice these are rivetted on, so that make prove tricky too cheers |

Take and post a photo of the strut in the boot so that we can see exactly what you mean. Then we can advise. A picture is worth 1,000 words

Can't really make it out. That plastic tube is in the way. If the strut/damper is physically broken I don't think that it can be repaired. If it has become unatached at the other end it can be reconnected. I will check mine out later today and come up with hopefully more info. If its broken you should be able to pick one up of a scrapper. Put your magnifier on the image and you should be able to make out the detail.
