Question What's this?

So, I was looking for my ATF dipstick today. I couldn't seem to find it. I thought the knob with the yellow cap in the pictures could have been it, so I pulled it. . . . off. Nothing attached to the end of it. So stands the question - what did I pull off my gearbox? And where is the ATF dipstick in the pictures?

Feedback appreciated, Jack.

that is the breather pipe , The dipstick is under that big turbo pipe near the battery you can see in the first picture , down low on the front of the gearbox next to the engine block .Under the boost hose and lower radiator hose which are close together .

Thanks, I will get her apart again tomorrow maybe but I couldn't seem to find it despite having a good poke around. There's definitely nothing yellow down there, but perhaps it doesn't have a coloured dipstick. The breather pipe was the only yellow thing in the whole nearside of the engine bay.

I've always thought the breather pipe just looks like a parts bin cobbled together vauge after thought.

It sure feels like it too. Came apart in my hands. Perished rubber and cheap brittle plastic. Stuffed it on again as best I could, will probably be ok but I plan on making a significantly superior replacement out of some old Lego and chewing gum.
