My main issue is that the V90 Audio either does not find the music files or ends up with a new Album for every track. Some are fine but others are a mess.

All the music files are in Album folders and worked fine on older system . Tried also on 2016 V40 and read fine from USB

issue e.g.
1. Album is missing so cannot see any files
2. Single Album entry but only one file (others missing
3. I have 12 entries for a particular Album with a single track in each
You should not use the USB socket for charging devices , It can only supply 500 ma ( 1/2 Amp ) whilst most modern phones / Tablets need more than this , Up to 2 Amps ..Also it will wear the socket plugging in and out all the time . You can use a 2A usb charging socket which plugs into the 12 Volt outlet in the car .

I must admit. My audio files are really well tagged but I could never find a painless solution for my multiple compilation albums.

Using playlists, hacking the tags, etc all turned out to take too much time and hassle. And nothing was ever without drawbacks.

So, I gave up and bought a used iPod Classic 160Gb off ebay. Synced it up, plugged it in with a single USB cable (no Y cable) and it works flawlessly. £100. Worth every penny.

Disappointing that Volvo system doesn't work correctly. But at least there is a solution. Albeit, a compromise for some.

It is a classic, but I’m reminded of a piece of advice, from a photo-journalist colleague of mine; ‘Once you are happy with the subject, check the background for rutting dogs’.

Does the centre screen play video when you aren't driving?

Video plays when the car is stationary and at up to ~5 kph. Audio continues regardless. If you drop below 5 kph the video returns (and in sync with the audio).

No sound only, but watching action films in the car is surprisingly good with the virtual surround sound very impressive. When stationery that is.
