Servicing: Sheffield

My 2002 S60 2.0T SE is due its 60K service in the next few weeks. There are obviously a few main Volvo dealers both in Sheffield and Doncaster who I can take my car to but I wondered if any one could recomend any independant Volvo specialists in the Sheffield/Rotherham or South Yorkshire area. I have been quoted £270.00 all in so far (less any VOC discount that may be forthcoming)

Hi Craig,

Not sure about independents, but of the main dealerships, the Sheffield one gives better customer service than the Doncaster (Riverside) one. Very sad as I did a lot of consultancy work for the Doncaster one back in the 90s - they were the best in the North at the time. I also had great service from Harratts back in the 90s - they're no longer in Sheffield, I think their nearest Volvo dealership is in Wakefield (?) now.

I use Sandford Road Auto Centre (Balby, 01302-857373) or Jock Sergison (Hyde Park, 01302-321238) for the jobs that I don't want to do - neither are Volvo specialists but equally, neither will rip you off. The Sandford Road one is more professional looking, but the service standard is about the same for both - I've been using Jock for 20 years, and Sandford for 3. Jock has pretty much retired, but his son (Euan) now runs the place and he is much more professional. I'd happily use either.

Addendum! Just looked up the name of the Sheffield Dealership, and it is a Harratts now! LOL It used to be called something very similar to a chain that was charged with lots of trading offences but was unrelated. I can't remember the name unfortunately.

Also, there is an indy in Sheffield called Gelders. I haven't used them myself, but they may be another option for you.

I know we have a list of "recommended" independants.
Do we not have a similar list for "Avoid like plague" dealers and independants..?

If you can drive down to Nottingham then maybe give David Pengelly (DPS) a try. He is on Henry Street in Lenton, and anyone that is relatively fit can manage the walk in to town to spend an hour or two whilst the car is being done.

David used to look after my old T5 and I always found him honest, reliable and good value, with a very high standard of work.

I would recommend AB GELDERS on Sharrowvale Rd, They are Volvo independant specialists as well as being enthusiastic for the marque they have always been excellent with me

No he isn't! He moved!!! And he trades as DPA..
Should have the updated details in the VOC Service search and the Members' Discounts on Parts and Services forum..
He is now on Radford Road...
