Hi Jen,
The meetingI referred to, in an earlier post, is the monthly general meeting. It is held at: Castle Hotel, Bramber, Nr Steyning. The next meeting is on Wednesday 29th April. You would be expected to be a Volvo Owners Club Member. There is a meeting for the Southern Best Kept Vehicle at: Milestones Museum Leisure Park, Churchill Way, West Basingstoke, Hants., RG22 6PG. Tel: 0845 6035635. From 10 am. Cheers, John. Last edited by johnjp; Apr 1st, 2009 at 08:24. |

Hi Jen
Sorry didn't see your original message, but thanks to John at Rodmell, you now know where we meet. Please come and check us out: we have the use of a dedicated room in the rather posh Castle Hotel in Bramber most months. A nominal 7.30pm for 8 start, but as its usually just a noggin & natter, nothing too serious if thats too early for you. We are mostly, er, old (!) but can round up most models of Volvo, ranging from PVs to modern cars, if needed for car shows, and we consider ourselves dedicated keen enthusiasts. Come and see if you agree! JohnJP: glad to read the auto Amazon is nearly ready for Mot. Hope you (and Jen) can come and support us at the Volvo Gathering at Bentley (near Halland) on Sunday June 7th. Free entry to this stately home/motor museum with membership card - only pasengers pay. We'll be posting more in the events section after Easter, and it should be in the next "Driver" too. Audrey is the new team leader - I am her servant! Paul |

Paul - is that the Bentley wildfowl & motor museum? Might be up for that this year!
See you at the Southern 120 / BKV?

Yes - should have given the place its full name, as you have. We have our gathering there each year now, as there's lots for all the family to see, not just cars.
The only slight drawback; for those hoping for a nice restaurant and full Sunday lunch, if you don't fetch it yourself you will be disappointed. There is a cafe but it doesn't provide full meals. 222s: look forward to seeing your estate again soon - maybe at Aldershot over Easter too? Not taking my car in though - can't get up early enough! Hi Volvo Paul
Thank you for your email, It would be great to come along and meet people and see other volvos, this is my 3rd Volvo, I had a 343 and a 345 at one point, my dad had a metallic silver Jubilee edition volvo, a 3 ltr coupe (two tone colour)(cant remember the model) a 480 and the 262c, so as you can see I come from a Volvo family. Are there many of you at the Bramber meeting? I would also like to go the other one as well sounds like a great time. Do many go to Milestones as I understand that is in May ? |

Yes, Jen, Milestones (the futuristic museum building on the Basingstoke ring road) is where the club is holding this years Southern BKV. The venue alternates between there, Fort Nelson (on the escarpment inland from Portsmouth) and the Haynes Museum at Sparkford. Three excellent places, where John Smith and co are actively challenging the sad fact that the main BKV (Best Kept Volvo) aka the National Rally is almost always held miles away from the south, and us doddery old gits consider the costs prohibitive to venture too far north of Watford.
Your Jubilee edition would most likely have been a 240 - I went to look at one once, but the rust had got too much of a hold. Would the "3-litre" have been a late '60s or early '70s car, in which case it must have been a 164 like mine. Finally on the quizzing, is Goring your locale, as I saw a 262 on the driveway of a bungalow there when cycling around last summer? We have a dozen-plus regulars at Bramber now, although some have yet to renew their membership, and others are moving away, so it varies. We'd love to see you there - another member (sadly a rare visitor now due business commitments) also has an immaculate 262. T'would be great to get a 262-gathering! Paul |

Hi Paul
Thanks for all the info. I will definitely be a milestones John told me yesterday he has already booked the weather ! I think your right about the Jubilee it was a 240. Not sure what year the 3 litre was, next time I see my dad I'll ask him. I'm in Crawley nowhere near the sea unfortunately, the 262 only does 4 miles a day, so a trip out would be beneficial to it. I have seen one it bits down this way in a barn, but when my Dad bought his, the actor Roy Marsden had just bought one identical, other than that I havent seen another, so its great to know there a still a couple around. It would be super if your chap came along as well. |
