Wiring loom break points
I'm currently stripping out part of the interior (1988 240GLT estate) to enable a small patch to be welded on the floor, just inside the nearside sill, under the passenger seat. Its not a lot to weld but I need to remove electrical wiring from that area - it runs from the passenger footwell, underneath a galvanised plate then along the inside of the sill underneath the seat support x member and back around the rear wheel arch.
Problem is I can't see an easy block connection point to split the loom. I could disconnect around a dozen connectors under the dash, but that seems a lot of work (and there's one I haven't found yet!). Or the rear wheel arch connector if I knew where it was - can't see it yet. Beginning to think I might be easiest just to cut the loom in the rear footwell, where it has fewest wires, but don't really want to do that if there is a "proper" block connector somewhere. Any clues appreciated. Iain |

A pic would help, but I would imagine its for the lights and the wiper washer etc.....as far as I know there are block connectors near the tailgate hinges and presumably around the rear light clusters...
Would it not be easy enough to just wrap a bit of masking tape around the wire near the dashboard end stating where it plugs into and what switch or fuse it connects to etc....? Steve

Cant you just pull them up away from the floor? that's how I did it, if I remember right.

JUst lift and support the loom away from the area to be welded. I do not think that there are any connectors in that area to let you split the loom. I had multiple patches applied to the floorpan in this area on an old 265 by the dealers. They managed to burn through the loom and their electrician had to effect a repair. The repair was a joining of multiple cables ending up with a thick sausage of insulating tape. If there were connectora available I reckon they would have used them during their repair.

I've ended up disconnecting all the fusebox area connectors, which isn't really that bad a task. Did however have to cut three wires in part of the loom which disappears over through the heater/central console area. Couldn't locate a connector for that. Easy enough to fix.
All wiring now pulled through the "tunnel" beneath passenger seat (seat and carpet removed obviously) and ready for welding. You're correct - there are no breaks in the loom from the fusebox right back to the rear tailgate hinges! cheers Iain |
