Simon, According to Lindh (ISBN 91-86442-14-7) the fuel injected 142 Grand Luxe was part of the 1971 range "introduced in Autumn 1970". No month stated I'm afraid. This was not sold in the UK. (Is it the world launch or the UK launch that you need to know?) John |

I suggest you try the Swedish 140 club:
http://www.140-klubben.org/ I think it's likely that someone on their forum would be able to help you deduce the VIN (chassis number) for the first 140 built with RHD, UK spec & B20E engine. If you can get the VIN, Volvo can tell you the exact build date of that car. Best of luck John |

When i started work at a volvo dealership in June 1971 the first of the 144 GL model with the B20E was in the showroom , mustard yellow colour on a J registration . The 1800 E was launched with this engine first , i remember driving one with a H registration then which had persistent problems filling the sump with fuel for quite a while due to too many cold starts , but WOW did that car go , it smoked a little but it went off the clock and rev counter on a certain road :-) It was obviously nice and loose inside .

Had seen this table in another site and there's something that intrigues me.
My 144 has the code U and was produced in late 1970 or early 1971. In the table comes also indicated the engine power to this height (90 or 105). And my has 135. Last edited by asjesus; Mar 26th, 2012 at 16:17. |
