Default Help! Rear Strut Rebuild Issues-2000,S40

I am in a rather serious predicament here.

Have removed both rear strut assemblies, and successfully taken the coils/springs off. Problem now is getting it back together. Issue is that when assembled, I can’t compress the rubber washer that sits on top of the top strut enough to thread the bolt onto the tip of the strut. I have uploaded an image from my manual of which nut I am talking about. Also have images showing some of the reassembly of the strut.

What is the trick to getting to compressing that washer and getting enough thread visible to get the nut back on?

Did I reassemble something wrong on in the top of the strut beneath the strut mount?

Anyone have a good diagram of how the components go back on the strut, beneath the upper strut mount?

Do I have the long bushing in the wrong place?

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Default Rear Springs

Hi.
I had a similar problem when I did mine a couple of months ago, basicly I don't think you have got the spring compressed enough mine where a swine to do as the spring compressors kept moving round and slightly releasing the coil stopping me getting the nut on, in the end I used four jubilee clips to hold the compressors on place which worked....are you using two or three compressors I used two but if you follow this guide they use three:

Default Struts

Got what I needed and life is once again good. Problem was that I had the dust cover installed in the wrong order on the strut piston rod.

Thanks to all.
