Headlamp gives pink glow
This may sound silly but my nearside headlamp has started to give off a pink glow. Nothing showing on dashboard as to headlamp failure. Any suggestions please.
Its a 2007 S80. Cheers. |

Bi Xenon ( Gas Discharge) i take it .
When the bulb is at the end of its life it goes pink . They last about 7 years on average so yours is a little premauture unless you are on the road all the time . You will not get a message until the bulb actualy fails .

Is this still legal or do I risk getting pulled for it?

technicaly illegal, but i cant see a police car pulling you over when they seem to let all these illegal number plates alone .
The MOT Testers Manual says: Reason for failure , "an obligatory headlamp shows light that is not substantially white or yellow"

Fitting new bulb
Just read my manual and it says must be fitted by Volvo workshop. Is this not something you can do yourself?

No i wouldnt recommend trying yourself , the bulbs are £120 each and are very easily broken when fitting , well worth paying someone to take the risk . The safest way is to take the bumper cover off and remove headlamp for better access if OLD S80 .
If NEW S80 then the headlamp pops out easily and the garage should do it in 15 mins .

Bulbs changed
Bought two bulbs D1S XENARC WHITE from Amazon for less than £50 and fitted myself. They are not Osram as fitted but I cannot tell the difference. Very easy job just be careful and follow instructions. Mine is new type S80 so headlamp pops out and you can replace bulbs on bench.
