To be honest most of my motors have been very cheap in the low 3-400 pound price range and all the tyres have always been changed for new as every car apart from a new car the tyre walls were cracked.

Would I fit secondhand, I don't know?

I would always recommend having a reputable tyre dealer inspect any tyre you buy prior to fitting, as far as insurance goes, providing you're supplied with a tyre the same size, same/greater speed and weight rating, and the DOT (age) code isn't older than the car, I doubt any questions will be asked if (god forbid) you have a bump

Thing is, though, if the used tyre is on a second-hand car, and the car appears to have been well looked after, then the tyre is probably fine. But if it's not on a car, why not? Was it replaced on the car, and if so, why? Now, it may well have been taken off for a perfectly good reason, in which case no problem - but can you be sure? So then I guess it depends how much you trust the supplier...

Are the tyres on the car you just bought recent part worn replacements put on to sell the car?
End of the day we can inspect any tyre only visually. Whether or not it is safe might not be immediately apparent. It's all down to our own judgement and knowing to look for any damage and how to spot it. How many of us inspect the inner walls of tyres on a car we want to buy?
If you can find a supplier that you trust implicitly for part worns, go for it. You'll get a major brand at a fraction of the cost with a little less tread than it had when new. Better than paying the same money for an unknown Chinese death-trap.

do you buy new tyres for any car you buy ?

nothing wrong with buying from a good dealer

one that really buys the best tyres and checks them

also i check them for any signs of damage etc

do you demand new tyres on a rental car

wow....do not ever think about buying a house that is not new, it could fall down on you

I fitted a full set of S/H brakes and shocks on my old "UR"

how on earth i never died , i dont know....!

Well part worn tyres not always comes damaged or repaired. When I had a Corsa went to my local to get some winter rubber. Just for the front. As one of a tyres was punctured before I had a new one fitted. After couple of weeks went to get they winters and guy asked me if i wanted the old ones back. With nearly brand new summer tyres of course my answer was to stick them back in a boot. That's how some garages doing bussiness on part worns because people tend to change tyres (to winters in my case) and not bothered with old ones. I know not always the case but good explanation.
