I rung for a quote over the summer and was told they were unable to quote because of the modifications my car has.
Strangely, Elephant had no issues covering it all. |

That's happened to me too in the past with CK ...so annoying.! I stopped using them two years ago. That £250 floor they speak of has been there for at least the last two or three years.! I can do much better...last year I went with M&S ((£240 fully comp. INCLUDING full RAC personal membership)...and this year with Kwikfit ((£191 fully comp. INCLUDING full breakdown cover) Neil

I seriously question whether these people should be on the forum at all. My mum just rang them. Went through the whole thing including date of birth and finally right at the end.............
Wait for it We can't insure people over 70. A few choice adjectives spring to mind including useless, incompetent and ageist. |

Like every other company we have a set of criteria given to us by the insurers that we must adhere to. The scheme works for a significant number of members of VOC (they don't speak up on this forum though). Because it works so well for the club we offered to extend it to the forum.
Unfortunately, our special scheme doesn't allow us to sign-up drivers over 70 but we would have quoted your mum outside of the main scheme where we're just left with computer rates. I suspect those rates were high so we would have said that we couldn't beat her renewal and it was her age that was stopping us using the main scheme. We don't see how that makes us useless or incompetent. It's not even ageist as it is proven that drivers over 70 are just as risky as young drivers.

Then why not say that right at the start of the conversation, when you ask the DOB?
The simple fact s that there is report after report after report of your utterly useless customer service on this forum. Search people. There are even reports that Chris Knott sell their customer's contact details. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showpo...1&postcount=58 I used to insure my car with you many years ago when you actually offered a worthwhile service. My mother simply picked up the latest issue of Driver and became yet another person to have her time wasted by your predatory business practices. Nor is it 'proven' that older peoiple are just as risky as youngewr drivers, that is at best debatable as this article from the LSE discusses. http://blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandpo...self-regulate/ Last edited by 940_Turbo; Dec 4th, 2012 at 10:25. |

Of course, we'd love to be able to cover every single member and their friends and family but insurance is not a public service it's a business and as such we have to make sure we attract the cases that are more likely to produce a profit. Not everyone benefits but as we keep the account profitable for the insurers, they allow us to be more flexible with the cases that do fit our criteria. Refer to the original post.

Ref the post about selling on details, and accident claims companies contacting people.
I receive texts, calls and letters from such companies about everything ranging from ppi, to payday loans, to 'ref the compensation we have waiting for you'. Some are well know 'doing the rounds' spam scams, others look more reputable, so its a tad unfair (unless its concrete and one is 100% certain) to say a particular company sold on a persons details Regards |

The point is that you're on this forum as a specialist broker insuring Volvos, My mother drives an S80 D5
You have threads running advertising that you're a specialist broker, one for the ladies, special Christmas offer etc. In the event she insured her car with More Than, it's not like she had to try very hard to get cover. You asked her for her date of birth. At that point you could have said 'sorry you're too old'. You did not. You chose to waste her time, raising the suspicion that all you're doing is data mining. Just what is the point of going to a specialist broker if in point of fact that broker isn’t specialist at all, at least not in the sense that most people would understand the concept? As far as I can see all you actually want to do is pick out a particular age group and demographic. That isn’t a specialist service for the members of the VOC or the participants of this forum. All that is is a cynical marketing exercise. I think it is no more than fair that the participants of this forum get a truthful picture of just who you actually want. Give us a list, stop wasting people’s time. My mother discovered no people over 70 what else? Who else needen't bother ringing you? That way the people who don’t fall within your narrowly defined business model can stop having their time wasted by this particular ‘specialist’. Last edited by 940_Turbo; Dec 4th, 2012 at 20:37. |
