Some people a full of sh*t.

I had a P2 V70 and when I bought the P3 there was the usual tripe about "it's not a proper Volvo. It won't even last 100K miles."

My 11 year old V70 D5 has just clocked 208,000 miles. The only time it has caused me worry was when the oil cooler blew about 1000 miles ago.

It has cost me £70 to get through an MOT once (drop links) and recently £430 for the oil cooler fix which was mostly labour. Other than that it has cost me nothing other than consumables.

Facelift models (P3’s) are great cars. Everyone goes on about how good the P2’s were/are, but they have their issues too. All cars have issues, even Rolls Royce.

My dad has a V70 (P3 shape) with 160,000 miles on it... drives like new. When people say “The old models before 2008 were proper Volvo’s & the new ones aren’t” need to take their head for a wobble. Go on Autotrader, there’s loads of newer shape models with high mileage. In my opinion, P2 models are cramped & look dated... I prefer the new shape. Each to their own.

I was wary about buying a P3 after owning 3x P2s and reading horror stories of the Ford influence, however I love my P3 which was over 170,000 miles on it and drives really well. OK it has issues that I’m slowly working through (what 11 year old car with those miles doesn’t?) but it’s a keeper for sure.
