When i run the car with my VIDA hooked up and look at sensor readings which ones might be relevant to fuel economy? And would it be ok to just do that at idle or would i need to do screenshot under load as well

Again I would point out this is 100% urban due to lock down and others are saying urban 20mpg so it's not actually a million miles off. I don't have a motorway figure yet
I wouldn't rule out fake/poor quality MAF sensors being available, as davebb suggested.

Hopefully a VIDA expert can advise you. I understand engine systems pretty well in general but I've no specific knowledge of Volvo petrol engine management systems.

thanks for trying to help anyway, perhaps I should start by focussing on the MAF sensor then

does anyone know what sort of range of readouts I should get from the MAF?

(and also what other readings to look for, as per previous post)

I must say I really would go with the terraclean idea. How much is it? I believe it’s not at all costly? I

well the nearest people to me are quoting £100 for the terraclean, if it makes 2-3mpg difference that's definitely worth it over a year

he was umming and ahhing over the fact it's a petrol engine, he said 'well it would at least clean our your injectors I suppose..' but I wasnt really left with the impression that he was sure it would do much

I think I'll look at my sensor readouts first and try to find any obvious problems... I would be willing to throw £100 at it presuming I find nothing else to sort out first

My S40 2.4 170BHP is showing around 21 mpg, all town driving.

It was down to 18 ish so i gave the maf a clean up.
Still not a great figure but i am only doing around 3-4k miles a year at the moment.

Its more beneficial on a diesel.

That's probably why he seemed unsure.

I only know off hand for my D5 which is 45-50 kg/h, around 13 g/s at idle peaking around 160 g/s which makes sense as it's the bhp of the engine.

All the sensor data is in Vida though.

Filled up again today and latest update to spreadsheet / calculator is reading 18.3mpg

A minor improvement.. put another bottle of injector cleaner in as well, that's 3 of them now

To chuck in my 2 pence worth, put a bottle of Cataclean in the tank, this always helps the MPG in my S60, and when I put a bottle through the C70 its MPG improved as well.

I also found that replacing the thermostats on both cars made a marked improvement on the economy.

My S60 averages around 30 MPG mixed urban which I don't think is bad on a 211,000 mile car, not sure about the C70 at the moment as I have only just got it to what I call a sorted state. Last Friday I had the spark plugs replaced and that has definitely improved the performance side of the car 👍
