Although this wont help with problems with a modern engine thats coked up, when I was serving in the RAF we had quite a few petrol engined Bedford RL 4x4 three tonners.
When they began to get coked up and if the mechanics were busy with other work, two mechanics would take a Bedford flat out around the airfield prairie track, one driving and the other one pouring Redex directly into the carburetor. Clouds of black smoke ensued, on one occasion the aircraft fire fighters thought the RL was on fire, they came roaring out of their hangers, blue lights and bells clanging, (we didnt have sirens in those days) ready to put out what they thought was a vehicle fire. The trucks did tend to run a bit better, but they had a strange smell.

I remember when emissions testing came in for the MOT and all the elderly cars owned by the elderly people in the village started failing. If they'd had a recent service, we'd drive them flat out on the dual carriageway to Newmarket and back (about 30 miles) to get fish and chips for everyone in the workshop lunch and they'd sail though!

Ah the classic Italian tune up
Makes it harder when the gearbox changes for you though, it's a lot easier in a manual when you can really nail it. And blip / heel-toe down change to power hard out of bends etc |

Not really.
Just select one of the lower gear positions and it won't change to any gear higher than the selected position.

well this weeks figure is 20mpg still Urban only. with the exception of one slightly longer than usual run which included a short stretch of country lanes
I think the main difference was going from 32psi to 35psi. I also put a bottle of Cataclean in about halfway through the week still too many variables to be sure but it's definitely an improvement also I had alignment done today. I put the struts back on exactly dead on so camber was right in the middle (skill McGill) but the tracking was off in 2 different directions lol I guess it will also help having that straightened out. plus new tyres again at a good pressure |

Yeah there's manual, and there's auto.. anything in between is just a gimmick in my eyes tbh
dont you still have the other options though, like L, 2, 3, 4. MAN / D, R P or something like that Still though I'm enjoying this auto, there is something really satisfying about driving a manual well and pushing a car to the limits of its grip and power but in every day traffic and with shouty kids in the back an auto just makes things a lot more relaxed. and my left hand is for holding my coffee Horses for courses i guess Last edited by stuart bowes; Apr 21st, 2021 at 21:40. |

update, after a couple of catacleans, new tyres at good pressures and the various minor repairs and tinkerings above.. now getting 21.5mpg
(still 100% urban) still not done any A roads or motorways so I can only guess that it'll be closer to 30 on the longer runs but am happy everything is perfectly fine, just needed a bit of TLC that is if I dont get bored of driving like an old lady and just put my foot down |

MOT done, emissions 'perfect' handbrake 'perfect' and 'immaculate underneath'
Side note I did get the handbrake down to 3 clicks for normal 4 clicks on a hill, but 100% would not achieve that without the adjusters. With brand new everything Best feedback I've ever had on a car . I said to him did he think it was worth 3.5k and he sort of ummed and ahhed and went well yeah I guess if you like it enough lol well at least he didn't say no. Then it was just half hour chatting about minis and imps |
