D5 Engine Noise/EML on

Long term Volvo owner. Picked up a 2008, D5 V70185 manual gearbox hoping it would see me through the year after my last car gave up. High mileage ish at 182k.

Drove fine no issues now a week later is still driving fine except engine system service light suddenly came on. Probable coincidence it was just after filling the tank with premium fuel.

I’ve noticed there is a whine that goes up and down with the revs so not there at idle. Tried to upload video but won’t work.

It has had a new Intercooler couple of years ago. No loss of power so I’m really hoping it isn’t going to break the bank.

Anyone have any ideas?

Curious - I also just filled up with premium diesel (BP ULTIMATE) having experienced some light rough running during starting (after a period of short journeys on supermarket fuel).

Almost immediately I got the "Engine Service" message (not the Engine System Service").

It went away following a few restarts, but came back a short while later!

I've done nearly a whole tanks worth of Premium Diesel (on long runs (100+ Miles) but still getting the error. (Will be taking it to my local garage when I get a spare few days)

Currently got no Cruise Control which is a bugger!
