What do we think of it?

The box would present itself with glaring, slamming into gear) and poor changes etc.

If it doesn’t do this then buy it and then change the fluid each 40K and they will be very reliable.

I know! Just thought against it in the end as it had been sat a while due to the owner sadly passing away. Ideally I'd have had the cambelt changed immediately for peace of mind. Then I wasn't too keen on the autobox. I've told myself I'll hold out for a manual...that was two years ago!

There is of course the fun/skill of doing your own gearchanges when you have the Manual and are pressing on. Why let somebody at Asin AW decide your gear changes!

If your buying a T5 to drive around town and want the ease of the Auto then it's probably not the right car for that scenario.

Personally I wouldn't touch the Auto as it will go wrong at some point, despite any care you give it. The cost of the Clutch, DMF and slave cylinder is expensive and a bit of a pig to fit, but the box itself will not go wrong (touch wood).

Having had a higher mileage V70 Torslanda auto much of it around town; when sold with "moon&plus" mileage it had never had any autobox problem 'twas Volvo main dealer serviced for the first ten years of its life' then by me for the next eight.

My current T5 SE geartronic is quite at home in heavy traffic albeit at reduced mpg but still averages around 24mpg around town which climbs significantly when on longer runs.

The best I've ever managed from a petrol V70 was just 47mpg over a return trip of 740 miles using that 2001 V70 Torslanda auto - calculated from mileage recorded and tank refill quantities.

If you change the transmission fluid every few years or every 40K miles, you'll get moon mileage and the return journey without a problem + your knees will survive stop/start heavy traffic city & town driving.
