Anyway. Last weekend I had to put 95 Ron in the Volvo when I was in a rush.

And frankly, I can’t feel any difference in performance and the engine certainly sounds and feels the same. I don’t measure mpg so not considering that.

I am genuinely wondering whether I should even bother with the higher Ron with these new Volvo engines and whether they are tuned to be able to use the extra Ron in any meaningful way...
You have, like me seen both sides, vehicles on which, you can feel and notice the difference and those on which you cannot.

If you cannot feel the difference then perhaps not worth using the more pricey option.

I would guess that the handbook says that 95 is fine, perhaps gives it as a minimum.

Yes says words to effect of ‘95 minimum. 98 recommended for better performance and mpg...’

But certainly as far as performance is concerned - Appears to be negligible. Or certainly feels that way.

Whatever is available when I need a fill. I worked in the oil industry for may years and have no technical or moral concerns about supermarket fuel - the care taken with the storage facilities, and the deliigence of the tanker drivers when it comes to putting their load in the correct reservoir make a far greater difference.

I was at a lab testing contaminated diesel (ships) with a top man in the field. he smiled when I asked the difference in fuel . he said they are likely to have come from the same import tanker, and then some companies use additives for more expensive versions of that same fuel.
Some of it is just snake oil.......and differences in performance merely perception.

Correct - there are six refineries in the UK that produce/hold petrol forecourt fuel. None of them owned in any part by the supermarkets.... up until it's loaded onto the delivery tanks - it's the same stuff.

That's... Actually sad to know.

Cause somehow I had better mpg and engine felt more "alive" on German cheap E95 than on any petrol in UK..

Now your post tells me that most probably it doesn't matter where I buy fuel in UK, it will be the same anyway..

Oops.. yet another thing done to "whichever way is easier" standard?

Oops2. (Deleted)

So the regular diesel I buy from Shell or Texaco is the same as what I'd get in Tesco or Asda?

What about the V Power stuff? Is that just produced in the same refinery, loaded onto a wagon & additives pumped into it or something?
