I have a canal boat as well, they do not sound similar. And as I said earlier, with the roof down you can hardly hear the D5.

I presume this invective isn't aimed solely at C70 drivers.

The whole point of a convertible is to have the roof open. At that point one knows very well that it's a dag-dag cab

I'm happy to have donations to my wallet if I buy a petrol one, which I'd most prefer, providing its an auto. But as my employer has just told me that our remote working ends in 4 weeks, they will force us into an office, as we were all hired as remote workers, if I want to keep my job that I got over lockdown last year I will now have a daily commute plus the cost of parking. So I'm looking at driving to their sites in Salford or Liverpool and doing circa 1000 miles a month. A quick bit of maths shows that at 40mpg it would cost me £146 pm in diesel. In a petrol at 25mpg it would be £233, £86 more. |

Have you ever driven one? As I've said, on the move with the roof down the engine can hardly be heard. You enjoy whatever you drive and I'll do the same.

Tim, go and have a drive and make your own mind up. Don't be put off by other people's views.

Not sure what your budget is but if you can find a late model D3 or D4, these use the smaller 2.0-litre 5 pot diesel engines and are apparently more refined and responsive lower down than the old 2.4 D5.
I must admit, the D5 does sound a bit intrusive in these P1 chassis cars compared to older P2 cars. |

I drove a D4 version and you're right about the improved responsiveness but I didn't find it any quieter than mine. Having said that, the D5 I have currently is noticeably quieter than the one in my previous V50.
