Mine was squeking like you described until bolts were tightenend again, seem like every 6 months it need torqueing in (until it snaps again probably)...

No code for me for last 8 days so cant keep on investigating. I dont believe in holy IFixMyselfS so just waiting for error to come back but havent ordered any parts yet...
plz update if you get anywhere, so will I, maybe with 2 cases combined we will solve this

if its a turbo issue, it would make a noise all the time and more when on boost.

Just got the car back from the garage, new TCV fitted, exhaust manifold bolts checked - No change

The code didn't reappear and the engine light hasn't come on but I could feel it was the same coming home.

I guess next step is to take the MAP/IAT sensor off from the intercooler and give that a clean, will get a new BCV/PCV valve (the one way valve on the turbo) on order.

It definitely sounds like a boost leak but it's been pressure tested

Just to update as it's been about a year.

I still have this bloody problem and I've replaced the TCV, the PCV (the ball type sensor on the exhaust manifold) and the MAP sensor on the intercooler, all gen Volvo parts. I expect they are both related as VIDA shows pretty much identical symptoms, hesitancy, lack of boost, surges etc but I've yet to find anything online (or from Volvo) suggesting the knock sensor is ever actually the problem.

Think I'll rip it all apart soon and check the knock sensors. It could be the ECU is holding back ignition because the sensor is faulty?

Maybe I have an actual problem with the engine....

I forgot to post that last year my issue went away after replacing MAF (got used one from Focus on ebay). Went over your posts but didnt notice if you tried MAF or not?

Hi LoB.

I had a MAF code once 'ECM-1230 - Mass Air Flow (MAF) (Signal Too Low)' but after cleaning it, it went away, I've not replaced the MAF yet.

The car has all the torque low down but appears runs out of puff quite quickly, which lines up with both the symptoms of the knock sensor code and the 603C code, just not sure what to replace next!

just FYI it still may be related to MAF. My sensor was working and i cleaned it but there still was fault stored and car was surghing ever so often. Only replacing it made it go away. I wouldnt totally exclude MAF as a culprit just yet... :/
