Default location of speed sensor.

hi as my speedo has stopped working along with the trip metre, im told by the garage that it will be the speed sencor, my question is are there two different secors, ie speed sencor and abs speed sencor or are they both the same thing????

You need to say what year/reg letter your car is so we can decide whether you have a gearbox driven speedo cable or an electronic one which takes its readings from the abs wheel sensors.

sorry to butt in on your post, but im looking at buying a 1995 / n-reg 850 t5 and the speedo isnt working, any idea on the speed sensor for this one,

Default speed sensor

You will find the speed sensor behind one of the drive shafts underside of the gearbox off hand I forget which side but you cant miss it.

Volvo will charge you around £35-50 for the sensor. There is another sensor on the bell housing thats slightly cheaper

On late '95 ('96 model year) cars with this type of ABS unit:

the speedo is driven by an electronic signal from the ABS ECU.

Just beeing curious...
Has your speedo stopped working becausde you pulled off one of the ABS fuses or for some other reasons?
did you try to reiftt the fuse?

hi there, it stopped about 2 days after pulling that fuse, think it was location 14. but ive replaced the fuse and still nothing.

hi chris, yes the same set up as mine, and the abs light is on , on the dash.

That will be why it's not working, probably the first option is to do the resoldering job.
