Default Fuel Tank Breather '87 740gl

Having replaced both fuel pumps, (front one excessively noisy, in-tank not working), have discovered the fuel tank breather is blocked. Car drives for about 10 mins from cold then runs out of fuel. Open filler cap, whoosh noise, leave cap off and runs fine, put it back on problem returns and pumps make straining noise.
How do I sort the breather problem, or is there a way of getting around this?

I would be looking at the cap. Maybe replacing it. Im sure they vent thru the cap. (could be wrong though)

Checked fuel cap and now venting but problem not cured, I'll start another thread to give more details.
