Default S40 Pillar Mount

Can anybody identify this pillar mount and let me know where I might be able to find one ?

I saw it on the US site www.s40concepts.net in one of the threads but even the guy who posted the pics couldn't remember where he got it from but said it was a Swedish site. This probably means it only comes in left sided form only but I can but hope :-)

If not does anybody know of any similar looking discreet mounts ?

Never seen that one.

I'm cutting down the right hand pillar mount from partsforvolvosonline.com, should have some photos soon.

Sorry if this turns out to be irrelevant, but i was thinking about doing the same thing. would the activation of the inflatable curtain in the event of an accident affect a pillar mounted boost guage in any way? as i heard someone on an american forum say that they'd heard of horrific injuries caused to a driver by the boost guage tearing off and hitting him in the head when the curtain was released in an accident.

Jacq,

That was my post on that forum. If the car has curtain airbags, please don't fit any pods on the pillar, they get ripped off very easily by the force of the airbags and the driver then becomes the airbag for the pod itself! I work in A&E and have had direct experience of the consequences of such accidents. A good spot to mount a gauge is the little space between the steering column surround and the edge of the centre console, i.e. the gauge will sort of be located in the space above your left knee when driving. Its not ideal but believe me its quite practical as you only tend to glance at the gauge once in a while to make sure its not overboosting, especially if boost is only controlled by software (you can also see the gauge through the gaps in the steering wheel quite easily). If you're using a bleed valve, then I guess its of less use as the boost can vary somewhat.

Hi Dave

I see you are in Lincoln, I am in Peterborough which is not to far away. I would be willing to offer my T4 as a trialist.

Try IPD in Portland, Oregon, USA. Their URL is http://www.ipdusa.com and they have an e-mail contact part on their site. Ask them your question and I think it is about $6.00 (air-mail p&p) for a catalogue.

All the best, Peter

Andy,

have you got any photos of this yet? I am thinking of getting one and would like to see what it looks like before reaching for my wallet... :-)
