A: The optimisation upgrade has been designed to provide those Volvo owners who wish to enjoy a sportier drive to upgrade if they so desire. The standard Volvo products remain true to their relevant dynamics and comfort levels which are developed to appeal to a broad audience, not all of whom will enjoy the heightened performance and dynamic abilities
That’s BS though isn’t it. Not your reply, Volvos reply. There are multiple modes available and I am sure you could toggle between maps should Volvo wish to offer it.

I see it literally as a way to get an extra £700 profit lol!

Thats the nature of the beast !

Each year things get added / removed off the spec that people than have to decide if they want, or can do without - and if they want it people need to open their wallets (e.g my 2020 V90 had HUD & heated steering wheel as standard, on the latest version its a £1325 optional extra).

Taking the thread slightly off topic.
Back in 2001 I had a Rover 75 Connoisser Estate that delivered 116bhp and had an MG X-Power upgrade to take it to 135 bhp and the upgrade cost me circa £350. It improved the driveability of the car considerably.
In 2021, my V90 which delivered 235bhp in standard trim had now been Polestar's to take it to 255bhp and the upgrade cost me £595
In 2021

Very tempted.

Not a high mileage driver, but keeping the car long term.

S90 D4.

My question is, does polestar upgrade make Comfort mode 'better/sportier' than non- polestarred dynamic mode?

Anyone?

Indeed. What parameters does Polestar change?

I had Polestar added to my XC60 D4 MY2018. It had a noticeable effect on both Comfort and Polestar mode. The main difference in Comfort was much quicker gear changes - it also had a habit of being always in the “right” gear. The only downside was that it had a detrimental effect on my MPG - not a lot - but certainly the car was more thirsty afterwards. I still managed 36.4mpg over the 25,000 lifetime I had the car.

The Polestar mode was worth every penny - made overtaking a pleasure in the D4 - much better torque map.

Hope that’s useful.

Drove 16 miles home and the car is so much better! I was after an improvement in comfort mode - and it does deliver; quicker gear changes, gets rid of the lag on pull away, hill starts better, and kick down is super quick. The effect is subtle (don't expect a fire-breathing change in acceleration)...it just feels better and more intuitive.

Haven't tried Polestar mode, I'll save that for another day.

I do agree with others comments - this is how the car should be out of the factory.

I'm happy with the money spent.
your fwd or awd? i guess fwd right?

Thanks, interesting.

So Volvo says it's completely indistinguishable from standard until & unless more power is required.

Rather changes the equation in terms of how many people would opt for it were it a no cost option - answer: everyone.

And also easily available as standard, were they minded - because nil additional cost to Volvo.

...but those things will never happen because profit.

I wonder if they’ll offer polestar optimisation on the newer mild/micro hybrid models? I see most T and D models offer it. It I see nothing about the B models yet. Surely they’ll leap at the extra profit?
