Default Testing City Safe :)

I was testing my City Safe yesterday.
I bottled it with my friend standing in front of the car (Although youtube has some great videos), and instead used a 50" TV panel box in the road.

Great success, was really clever worked very well apart from the last attempt when the car smashed into the box and propelled it 20 yards down the road..

Now, we are thinking why it did this, and our conclusion is that it started to engage, and then I dropped the clutch to change to 2nd and the city safe process cancelled?

Either way, it was good fun.. Loving the car at the moment..

Firstly the standard CitySafe will not stop for a person, it' needs something the size of a car (there is a percentage of the front of the vehicle needing to be covered) for it to activate.

Also, if it detects any type of user intervention it will not work.

Yes, I tried it on my V70 fitted with 'Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake'. We built a cardboard wall but sadly my car just nailed it each time. Somebody did post about organising a day at Thatcham using their test equipment as seen in the Fifth Gear feature below. (Obvious disclaimer if you car doesn't stop and gets damaged) IIRC we needed about 20 people to be interested to get it to happen!

+ YouTube Video

Testing City Safety using your friend standing in front as a dummy, will only enable you to test out the effectiveness of the bonnet airbag...!!!

I bet even Volvo don't use live dummies for testing - very thorough!
