Question on the side
Just out of interest, has anyone changed the interior light bulbs on a v70 mk2 (2004) for led /smd?
Dos it give bulb errors? I mean all them interior lights and maybe the cluster illumination, if I find out how to remove it safely. Lol But, thought of exchanging them interior lights first. ( done this on my 99, but not sure if the electronics on the 2004 gives problems by doing it.) Thanks |

IF they fit, they work. They don't have the detection circuits to trigger "bulb out" messages. The license plate lamps are also not monitored.
What you do have to keep in mind, along with fit, is heat. |

Cop. Thanks.
Led or smd usually giving less heath as far as I know, so should be good. Never thought about plate bulbs. Lol. I order them and replace it. Makes it look fresher. |

I've heard about LED bulbs not dimming / turning off entirely. When I got my V70 it had led bulbs in it that flickered horribly.
I replaced them with some from Amazon Inlink 6pcs White Error Free Festoon canbus 4SMD 5050 42mm LED Car led License Plate Light Festoon led Bulb festoon dome lamp DC 12V https://amzn.eu/d/hFKPvaT I hadn't thought about doing the dash but that kinda sounds more effort than its worth. Number plate bulbs I did replace with some from Auto Bulbs Direct (501 Twenty20 Elegance Canbus LED). The previous bulbs had melted the plastic around them. |

Thanks.
Yep I look on amazon for it. Not sure of the dash. Just in case it didn't like different bulbs. Not really a fan of multiple taking it out and back in. Lol. I defo exchange the interior lights. The number plate I used the same as on the 99. They canbus led without getting warm. I had spare from when I ordered them for the 99. Same as the sidelight bulbs in the headlights. Just makes it look fresher with white lights. Thanks for the infos. |

Well, I ordered, not cheap led bulb to replace.
None of them works as it should. Staying on, or not dimming or not working in some holders. After a nasty call to the next volvo dealer, some of them volvos around 2004 have a resistor, so you need to order the right part exchange from volvo. Or wire resistors in the loom for them in order to work appropriate. No way I told them I would pay them 3 quit more each bulb just because of there design, Stuff it, leave the ugly old-fashioned crab bulbs in. Disappointed of this is not even the right word. Lol Really start thinking if this may be the last volvo I bought with all this special requirements to do anything on it. Lol So, this idea is dismissed and I go back to the 99 and do some personalisation on that one. |

In defense of the marque: I don't think Volvos are singular in the capacity to be picky over fancy bulbs.
Sure it's fun to order "whiz-bang" lighting upgrades but you gotta remember the companies spewing out these consumer products have to be slap-dash. Very little, if any, tech data is revealed. The products are sold through "no service" systems like Ebay or nameless reselling outfits overseas. All we know for sure is that our credit cards are charged. I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade but you must maintain scope. Little plastic things containing subassemblies (the LED itself, any housing, any electronics needed for other applications, parts left over from all the junk items they make and that we buy. You don't think you actually get an engineered product, do you? It's a hodgepodge of industrial floor sweepings. Hey, I'm so old and jaded I'm happy when a replacement filament bulb lights up.....it means the damn socket is still working. |

I think if you are going to go LED really you should know the resistance of the filament lamps you had in there originally, the resistance of the LEDs and alter the LEDs to match the filament lamps with resisters (although I am not an auto electrician). I think really I would give the upgrade a miss unless you wish to invest quite a lot of time potentially. Its good to post this thread up as it assists others, thanks. |

Did you get the ones I posted a link to?
They work perfectly in my 2003 V70. They replaced crap LED ones that had the exact symptoms you described. |
