Default Stuck in France with a car I can’t lock!

Hi

I have a 22 XC60 hybrid drove down to France with our caravan car performed flawlessly and was really pleases with the way it towed.

The evening we arrived we tried to go to get some food and the dreaded “Key not detected” made an appearance.

I now cannot lock the car, the only way I can start it is by the cup holder method.

Had Volvo assistance out who said the only thing they could do was to take the car and change the battery up it the key fob but given neither key works and I can’t do anything with the car in the app and the gps isn’t working I’m assuming it’s a TCAM issue.

I’ve tried the front de mister reset but doesn’t seem to have worked. I read somewhere about disconnecting and/or recharging the TCAM battery but can’t find any references to it now.

Does anybody have any pointers at all please?

Thanks
Chris

Slide the fob cover off and use the blade to lock it for now, I don't think you will get any real fixes until you get home if Volvo have looked at it and been stumped, sounds like the sensor is playing up if it's not finding the key or you must be wearing Faraday trousers

A couple more simple options,

Try locking and unlocking the car with the button in the door card a few times,

Look in the locking options in settings and change them back and forth, so have it only lock one door when you had it set to all four, then back again,

I'm suggesting this in case it's one of those code glitches and an alternative message may clear whatever's causing it.

Annoyingly that only locks the passenger door and doesn’t trigger the central locking. But will keep trying things

Haven’t tried that one yet,

Just about to disconnect the TCAM battery that was suggested by the tech guy for uk Volvo assistance

Hoping that will get everything to spring back into life.

Quick update

Disconnected the main battery and then the TCAM battery which is located under the boot floor in the back right corner. Left it five minutes reconnected everything and we seem to be back in business.

For anyone searching for this in the future having the same problem the only trick I needed to find out was that there is a little catch holding the connector to the battery. It’s on the right hand side as you look at it from the boot and you have to use a small screwdriver to push it to the left (towards the cables) to release it.

Thanks for the suggestions …. Hopefully we are sorted now for the rest of the holiday!

And thank you for also coming back with an outcome that may help others, hope the hols have no more hiccups, remember if it does do it again the blade in the fob can at least secure the car for you.

Just seen an earlier reply, does that mean it's still leaving one door unlocked?

It only seems to control the passenger door so all other doors and the boot remain unlocked. I guess it’s more a way of getting into the car if it’s locked than securing it if you can’t lock it.

It does seems strange though that there seems to be no way to secure the car if the key fob is not recognised ……. Modern cars!

That is strange normally everything locks and unlocks together, sounds like you just found part of the reason, do they all lock with the blade since you adjusted the battery in the boot or is it still just the one door,

You need to get this logged when you get home so Volvo have a record of the event if it happen's again, I know you've had assistance out to it but it's not UK so get it on record here as it sounds like it could be expensive if it does go again.

You can lock all doors with key, tried to download picture but can’t. If you open the doors there is a slot sized hole by the door lock on the door. Push the key in and will lock the door and then shut it. Do the same to the remaking 2 doors . Then use the key to lock the passenger door. Will try to download picture if I can
