Noise come from left side when car idle
A very rare noise come from the car when it is idle.
If i pump the gaspedal a little, it disappears. But it comes back every time when I drive the car. I can hear it only when car not moving, just the motor on base rpm. https://streamable.com/kxcbge Which part can do this sound? I can hear only on the front left wheel side. On the front right there is no noise at all. |

It is volvo S80 2.9i Automatic Transmission
Transmission type: GM 4T65EV I think that type does not have DMF. Sounds like "muddy pebbles moving". Only can hear when car is idle. If i pump the gaspedal a bit then noise disappear. Then the noise not comes back until I drive the car. If I drive the car, the noise appears again. Only can hear the noise, when the engine temperature reached the optimal level. Noise mostly audible when I film from the front left wheel. When I film the motor block, I hear the noise like hiding behind the motor: https://streamable.com/exo8fx My other guess is the water pump, that has a similar sound when fails: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3nEqhObT_M |

It sounds like something which spins which is very worn out.
Before you do anything with tools, start the engine, establish the noise then turn the A/C on and off in 5 second shots. Listen for changes. Simply relieve the pressure on the accessory belt tensioner and unhoop it from one of the pulleys. The system will slacken. Make a schematic drawing beforehand Grab each pully and try to move it. My guess is that you'll find one extremely loose. How many miles are on this car? What year it it? |

Year 2002. Noise comes from the transmission. Today I used the car a bit. And I can hear that click noise when I put the transmission from D to P. My current guess is clogged transmission filter. I read on many sites that clogged transmission filter HAS a noise in Neutral (Or in Parking): https://www.mytransmissionexperts.co...s-cost-to-fix/ It is a similar noise like mine: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ba5aRE-y5gg Yes and for the transmission I got a total rebuilt 6 months ago. But I read in the transmission rebuild warranty paper that customer should replace the tranny oil after 10,000km from the rebuild date. Maybe some metal particles remain after the rebuild, or the new transmission parts make some more dirt than a used transmission and need to replace the oil after 10,000km . ? sounds like you should drop the fluid pronto and refill, it's not a difficult procedure
most people do it three times spread over 5-600 miles or so first maybe check the level before you do so has it even got the right amount in it |

3 weeks ago we installed new drive shafts into the car. We had to add some fresh transmission oil because drive shaft replacement cause some transmission oil loss. Maybe the fresh oil flushed out the dirt from the transmission and now the filter clogged a bit., This is my guess now. |

As far as I'm aware the filter is not something you can change in these cars
I'm not sure fluid is supposed to come out when you pull a drive shaft out, others will advise no doubt but it sounds like maybe you need to replace seals or something |

I have same tranny like the T6: https://youtu.be/0bnjbmUXFVQ It is The 4T65EV tranny where you can replace the transmission filter. It is an old 4 speed automatic transmission. With disptick and replaceable oilfilter. https://www.volvofan.eu/Hydraulic-fi...AWD-p8180.html |

Ah ok different box to the usual then fair enough
presumably when you did all that you followed relevant guidlines and used the right type of fluid etc etc it's just that with that being a recent job it would be top of my check list when something like this happens the noise almost sounds like a sort of gurgling like it's low on fluid / trapped air / possibly even over filled? obviously you'll have to drain it anyway, then change filter if thats an option, but check how much goes back in and be really specific with it Last edited by stuart bowes; Aug 12th, 2022 at 16:27. |
