Excellent Doug. It's hard to tell from the pics but it looks like the lever that mounts on the manifold could go back more and someone has bent the stop forward. I might be dreaming but see attached pic of how it should be. With it straight there should be a 0.5mm gap between the stop and lever.

Also what distributor do you have and have you got vacuum to it?

Another adjustment that is possible: the bulkhead bracket has slotted holes in it where the bolts that fasten it to the bulkhead pass through.

If you loosen the bolts the bracket can be adjusted up and down. You may want to fiddle around with this?

Hi Mitch,

I've got a Bosch dizzy with a Petronix ignitor kit in it and no vacuum advance/retard.

Yeah I had a look at this but it look at this but it looks as though on my car at some point during its life the oblong load spreading washer has been welded to the adjustable bracket rendering it non-adjustable!

You are exactly right and my adjustment included bending the stop back to parallel with the fixing point and then adjusting the rod to take out the slack.
I'm not sure that I've ended up with 0.5mm gap between the stop and linkage but I happy with the outcome!
