Have run x2 V70 with engine mount 30776354 and have replaced these mounts on both cars. I have no memory of the aluminium box you show. Can you take a wider angle image showing more engine? At the moment I'm baffled by your current image.
Cheers
Bob.

Are there any wires going to it

What model / year is the car

Possibly some sort of vibration sensor / crash detection sensor or something would be my initial gut reaction but having never seen it before that's a total shot in the dark

well that's a new one on me, I thought the whole point of the rubber bush was to dampen vibrations so how does that thing work? just pure curiosity really

Default Curious!

From the parts listing it seems to indicate it's a damper but I'm also curious how. Possible theory so far it's purely an harmonic mass damper with the aluminium casting housing a denser material beneath the four bolts may be lead? depleted uranium? Be interesting to know what's beneath the four bolts.
