Default Space saver spare for 2015 V40 Cross Country

I've owned a 2015 V40 Cross Country D2 for three years and have decided (if possible) I'd like a space saver spare wheel in the boot instead of an air pump and a bottle of goo. Online research from all the usual places like Google, eBay and this forum tells me I would need a two-level boot floor kit to bury the space saver under the boot floor, since my Cross Country has a VERY shallow boot depression so I would lose boot space in order to carry a spare. However here is my problem. eBay will sell me anything, whether it is right for my car of not. One of my Google hits is TMS Volvo, selling a two level boot floor kit for £95....and apparently much the same thing for £206.

I assumed the higher price meant the wheel plus jack were included, but it certainly is not made clear. Also muddled is the red lettering lower down the listings saying things like "This item must be fitted with a temp spare except D2 engines" and "Cannot be combined with a Tempspare, except D2 engines". Which mine has got. It's a D2. I cannot see why the hell a D2 engine makes any difference to the boot. I sent TMS a 'Contact Us' message yesterday for clarification. They didn't reply. In the past hour I contacted my nearest dealer, Marshall Motor Group, for a price for the parts. At first they gave me £275 fitted. I said I'd do it myself and just needed the parts. After considerable keyboarding the parts man, sounding genuinely flummoxed, said he couldn't find a reference for the parts to fit a 'Cross Country'. Normal V40 yeah. Cross Country no. He said it didn't look as though it could be done to a Cross Country. So I found the number and telephoned TMS Volvo, to get a more direct response from them, regarding their confusing online parts listing, seeing as they can't type back to me. Bad phone line, parts guy with a foreign accent, but after much waiting he too said he would need to ask a technician for advice and 'get back to me'. They are closed now and guess what? They haven't got back to me.

So does anybody know of any reason why a 16" space saver Volvo wheel CANNOT be fitted along with a two level boot floor kit, to a 2015 V40 Cross Country, when it could be fitted to a regular V40, and what the D2 engine has to do with any part of the equation?

I looked into this when buying a spacesaver spare for my 68 plate V40 2.0L petrol.

The TMS two level boot floor for £95 is just the two level boot floor kit and is all you need. The kit for £206 is the two level boot floor kit plus an additional cover that goes over the spare wheel.

I ordered the parts from Volvo in Southampton. The parts guy was very helpful and told me that you can no longer buy the spare wheel kit complete so he had to order the parts separately. I also ordered the two level boot floor kit but he wasn't sure whether it would all fit a 2.0L T2. The parts arrived later that day and he helped me to fit them and the spacesaver spare and high level boot floor fit perfectly. We couldn't fit the lower boot floor because of the very shallow wheel well so the spare sits just below the high level floor. I didn't bother with the additional cover that goes over the wheel as it didn't seem necessary and not worth £100.

I understand that there are several different boot floor pressings depending on the model and exhaust system. The parts guy thought that with the D2 engine you could fit the two boot floors as the D2 has a deeper wheel well but maybe that is not the case with all D2 engines.

The V40 Cross Country is the same as the V40 so if you buy the spacesaver spare and the two level boot floor you will definitely be able to fit the wheel and high level floor.

That is brilliant thank you. I will reconsider where to get my parts from - it is quite possible eBay might be as good a place as any, particularly if I'm prepared to accept a secondhand spacesaver, but I'll think about that one. As you say, if £206 for TMS Volvo's ambiguous listing is over £100 more for a cover for the spare tyre, that does seem to be a waste of time and money.

Cheers!

The Addblue container (Diesel models only) is in the wheel well preventing wheel being stored. Not sure if it can be moved? Petrol model does not have this so should be fine.

Just fitted complete kit (£245 + P&P) to my 2019 V40 Cross Country T3 (Petrol 1500 cc). Bought all parts needed (new OEM) from eBay (Volvopartstrade).

Added photos to show the easy process (20 mins). No tools needed. Used a coin to unscrew the clamping screw holding the original kit in place.

Volvo part numbers for raised boot floor and spare wheel if you want to buy from them. My local main dealer costed these at over £500!
31682753 Wheel inc. foam insert
31329317 Centre anchorage screw
31381637 Spanner/ Wrench
31389392/31389392 L&R raised side supports
31332362 Centre floor support
31362159 Jack
31332549 Folding floor panel

Hope this helps.

Thanks. This might help others checking out the thread. I've had the spacesaver spare and associated scissor jack stashed in my diesel V40 boot for about six months now! Perhaps I should have updated the thread but I didn't think anyone would be checking back... mine came from Cecil and Larter, a licenced Volvo service specialist, via eBay and I got a good price and some helpful correspondence, though after I'd bought mine and they'd re-stocked I noticed the price went up! I think it was eBay comms to Cecil and Larter, before I made the purchase, where they told me the issue with diesel V40s is if they have the Ad Blue tank fitted in the boot - my older diesel V40 didn't, so there was absolutely no issue at all.
