Default Castrol Edge 0W20

Seems like an odd question but if I want to buy the Castrol Edge 0W20 Volvo Spec oil where can I go to buy it?

I have checked motor factors, online, supermarkets. No one seems to sell it.

It's another of those little "you must buy" games, as the Edge is the factory fill most people will just pay it, however ECP list two oils for the car, ones Shell and the other Mobil, one is about £50 for 5L the other slightly more or less, still way over the top for 5L of barrel sludge but is anyone prepared to take the chance that a good 5/30 or similar at £25 will be ok for the engines.

castrol worked with volvo to develop the oil for the new generation 4 cylinder engines which came in 2015 . They are advanced with many new features so you use any other oil at your peril , other manufacturers do the same of course.
It is not that expensive compatred to what you get in halfords,

VOLVO VCC RBS0-2AE 0W/20 who ever makes it .. 5 litres is the filling capacity.

VOLVO VCC RBS0-2AE 0W/20 % litres is the filling capacity.

I hear you with the Halfords oil but even they will be of reasonable quality but £10 saved isn't worth the risk, I was going to use the Shell one if I'd done it myself with a Mann filter,

VW do it with the 500 spec oils but I carried on using VX Dexos II in them, it met the ACEA and B specs and as I got a deal on it @ £18 per 5L I was reluctant to give VW £60+ plus the Passat ate through oil like Oliver Reed in a bar.

Default buy it here....

There is a global shortage of the 0W20 oil at present due to a shortage of additives. It will be back in stock in 4 to 6 weeks time and can be purchased here....

I usually use the Comma Volvo spec oil. https://www.commaoil.com/passenger-v...ducts/view/556. or Morris Lubricants Eco V which smells and looks identical - I suspect this particular Comma is Morris (not the other way round)

Castrol used their financial might to get the rules changed so their semi synth blends can be marketed as fully synth. All the other manufactures obviously jumped on the bandwagon - including Mobil (once king of synth) and sell cheaper blends as synth as well as their top-off-the-line full synthetics. You can usually tell by the cold pour point what the stock is - however with these increasingly thin oils it becoming harder to tell.

You can buy the Morris in 25 litre drums with a hand pump direct from the manufacturer. https://www.morrislubricantsonline.c...o-v-0w-20.html. Although it's showing as out of stock at the mo - I must have got lucky last week - 25 litre drum arrived

I'm wondering whether 0/20 Volvo spec oil is more to do with fuel economy rather than a protection level,

As Clan said they've developed it together so maybe it's simply a finer drag oil and perhaps something to do with it's ash content to reduce dpf blockages, it could also be the high pressure factor as well where if it's too thick it won't reach certain places and the flow will be blocked?

I don't recommend anyone tries to find out directly btw because if so you will save £30 and cost yourself £1000's if it all goes wrong.
